Here is what billtrim does to lower your monthly bills

Bills. They are one of the hard facts of life, right? While you may not be able to avoid your bills, there are ways you can probably use to lower monthly bills and save some serious cash. One such method is Bill Negotiation.

Some bills are indeed non-negotiable. But you will be surprised at just how much you can negotiate other monthly bills and expenses. Make a list of your current monthly bills and determine the strategies or bill negotiation services you opt to use.

How to Negotiate My Bills?

The first question that may come to your mind is:- Why should I negotiate my bills? But the obvious question should be:- why am I not negotiating my bills?

We only think of negotiation when we are at car dealerships or garage sales. However, most of the monthly bills are negotiable. We simply do not realize it.

Here are the five steps you can follow, starting now, to lower your monthly bills.

1. Always Speak in a Friendly Voice, Regardless of What Happens.

Your voice decides everything. It plays a significant role when you start negotiating with someone. It does not matter who they are- the ultimate goal is to get what you want. It becomes even more comfortable to settle for a friendly voice when the person on the other side likes you.

Having a friendly-assertive voice sets you apart, and that’s always calm and courteous. But make sure you never give in. You can compare this act to how a mother would deal with a kid having a meltdown in a  store. “I know you’re very annoyed because I don’t purchase you the remote control toy. But I still love you. Still, you can’t have it, baby.”

Remember you won’t deal with hatred like that when you’re speaking to a customer service representative. But remember this can surely help guide you when you are planning to reach through the phone and hit the guy on the other side.

As the person on the other side of the phone is invisible, you can only predict the character using the way you talk or the way they respond. So, pretty much your “Voice” becomes your character and tone can pave your way to get things done quickly and efficiently.

2. Ask for More than You Want, Then Slowly Settle Down.

One of the best possible ways to successful negotiation is to make it seem like you’re on a team working towards finding a solution together. Try to give in here and there and support your claim with some legit proof. Make sure to put a list of claims in front and then only try convincing the sales rep.

When you give in, the other person seems more comfortable giving it, too.

As you still need to make the deal in your favor, it’s crucial to initiate by asking for more than you need. It will give you enough room to move down to your actual requirement. It will make sense for the other person and move them by your side without giving up your genuine requirement.

3. Aim to Talk to a Person with Authority.

Only negotiate with someone who has the potential to do so.

When you call customer support, chances are very high that you’ll talk to a “first line” customer representative. They have close to no authority in negotiation at all. Almost all big companies employ this strategy. The first-line support representative will tell you how apologetic they are. They even highlight understanding your problem but are unable to do anything about it.

This is one of the initial hurdles during the negotiation, and many people give up. But we strongly recommend to don’t give up when this happens. Always ask for someone who can help you with your request. There is still some person who can, but they are one or two call transfers away. This is all about patience, as you end up losing a lot of time on calls.

You can do two things when you feel like you aren’t getting anywhere.

A. Hang up and call again. If you keep trying, chances are very high, you’ll get someone willing to help you.

B. Ask them to cancel your service while on call. You won’t do that, but the chances of getting someone who can negotiate increases many folds.

Big companies have a Retention department dedicated to keeping you from canceling by giving some offers upfront. Because every business knows that it’s easier to retain an existing customer rather than to acquire a new customer. So, this department will engage you with a representative who actually will have the authority to make billing exceptions

Always talk to a person with authority.

4. Always Have a Backup Plan.

Sometimes, it will lead you to nowhere when you’re negotiating over the price. For some reason, it’ll become clear that lowering your bill simply won’t be the viable option. This mainly happens when you are already on one of the lowest packages. The company can see that you are not contributing enough to get your bills lower even further.

If this case arises, you can negotiate for a better service at the same price tier.

Negotiating bills can be anything from money to service. The more solutions you propose from your side, the higher the chances that you’ll find something the other side will be more compliant to negotiate on.

5. Know When to Stop.

This is the first question you need to ask yourself before calling customer support. Ask yourself- “What’s the lowest I’m willing to go and still be satisfied?” There is nothing more frustrating than a bill negotiation that never ends. To make sure both sides feel good, you need to agree quickly. This is possible only if you know when to stop the negotiation.

When you know your numbers, you can successfully skip a whole lot of frustrations and confusion. If you are aware of what you’ll accept before you start is the key to getting what exactly you want and putting the negotiation from dragging on.

Negotiation Is Not Easy and Takes “Enough” Time and Patience

The Best Deals Go To Those Who Ask For Them:

Negotiation is all about practice. You can’t get it in the first place. And just like anything in life, negotiation is not an easy task. But it’s neither complex nor challenging to learn the psychology of negotiation.

If you feel like you are not skilled at it or just uncomfortable asking for a better deal, remember you won’t get anything you don’t ask for.
